The cacti of Branson, Fully

You will discover below the first of the Valais cactus sites that I visited. It is easily accessible and there is parking right next to it. It takes 30 to 45 minutes on site to enjoy it.

Visible species are Opuntia humifusa, phaecantha and Cylindropuntia. O. phaecantha and humifusa occupy a beautiful space. The place is also occupied by Sempervivum which sometimes grow in the same rock gap as the Opuntia.

You will start your visit with a magnificent Cylindropuntia visible across the road from the car park. Then you will head to the first site of Opuntia phaecantha. The colony is very well established you can admire hundreds of plants.

From there, you will go up the small road where you will admire the same species before reaching the heights via a small path passing under some trees. You arrive on the site of Opuntia humifusa. Some flowering is still possible in July but the ideal is to go in June.

If you still have time, you will take the time to go for a walk in the vineyards to observe a succulent flora composed of Sedum but also of Sempervivum including some magnificent S. arachnoideum housed in the dry stone walls of the vineyard.
